Qing Dynasty Concrete Table
The Concrete Tea Table references the modernisation of China's architectural landscape. We seek to challenge the perception of the typology of traditional wooden Chinese table. By replacing wood with concrete, the piece retains the image of a Qing Dynasty Chinese table, much like the way concrete apartment blocks of modern cities took the place where wooden structures once stood.
The layers of colour represents the different phases of modernisation of the cities, as each phase seemingly takes the development into a new direction, whilst at the same time remains a whole.
Concrete is usually perceived as rough and brutal, we aim to challenge this perception of its aesthetics through the use of colour and polished surfaces.
